What is Canine Brucellosis?
Brucellosis refers to a type of bacteria that typically infects the lymphatic system and genitals, although it can additionally spread to the kidneys, eyes and intervertebral discs. Symptoms of brucellosis can include abortion in female dogs and inflammation of the scrotum and testicles in male dogs.
Symptoms of Brucellosis in Dogs
Brucellosis in the eye area can cause the inflammatory condition of uveitis. Infection in the intervertebral discs, a condition known as discospondylitis, can result in weakness or pain. Blood tests performed prior to breeding can help prevent the spread of the condition.
Antibiotics are the course of treatment for brucellosis.
