2017 Veterinary Student Scholarship Award

About the 2016/17 Veterinary Student Scholarship Award

Pet Insurance U is excited to announce the opening of its 2017 Veterinary Student Scholarship Award! This scholarship program is open to all students currently enrolled at an accredited college of veterinary medicine anywhere in the US.
about_whoweare

Who should apply? Applicants with a proven academic record, financial need and experience in animal advocacy, in particular combatting animal cruelty. This scholarship focuses on the need for future veterinarians to engage with and educate the public in order to help bring an end to animal cruelty and to champion new and better standards for the humane treatment of all animals.

These efforts are aimed at:

  • Raising awareness of ongoing research that explores animal sentience and cognition
  • Organizing and chaperoning animal advocacy efforts on the web and in the community
  • Educating the public about the science of animal emotions, which is the duty of every future veterinarian

Currently, the information about animals that is disseminated by blogs, websites and influential social media accounts is often inaccurate, oversimplified and/or sensationalized. The need for rigorous, fact-checked content by trusted, independent veterinarians is greater than ever, and animal health care professionals have a unique opportunity to sway public opinion on meaningful issues relating to animal rights.

If your educational and personal history reflects a strong commitment to reducing suffering for all creatures, please consider applying for this year’s scholarship award — and use the opportunity to think about how you will make the most of your role as a veterinarian to improve the relationship between humans and animals.

Scholarship Criteria

This scholarship is open to all active students currently enrolled in an accredited veterinary college in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate academic distinction as well as financial need. Individuals with a strong record of community outreach efforts aimed at educating the public about the ethical treatment of animals are particularly encouraged to apply.

Veterinary professionals associated with Pet Insurance U will review each application to identify students who demonstrate a commitment to helping curb animal abuse. So if you aspire to make public outreach a fundamental part of your veterinary practice, please apply for this award.

There will be one veterinary student scholarship award available in the amount of $500. This is an equal opportunity award for the most qualified applicant who meets the minimum eligibility requirements outlined in the scholarship criteria and academic criteria sections.
