- $650 allowance
Wellness plans are in addition to an existing comprehensive policy for a monthly fee. You choose which of the three plans you want with the different allowance amounts offered.
You can use the allowance for some of the following procedures:
- Flea prevention
- Neutering and Spaying
- Routine vet visits
- Dental cleaning/periodontal disease
A few providers offer wellness plans.
While at first glance, they might seem beneficial, the reality is that most of these procedures are inexpensive and affordable. Therefore, it’s not really worth the extra monthly price.
Hereditary and Breed- Specific Conditions
Hereditary and breed-specific conditions (also known as congenital conditions) are covered with American Modern.
Pet insurance can really help with coverage of these kinds of illnesses and conditions because they sometimes don’t show symptoms until later in life.
And having already enrolled in pet insurance will help cover these costs before they become pre-existing.
Some examples of hereditary and breed-specific conditions:
Alternative Therapy Treatment
American Modern pet insurance is one of the few pet insurance providers, like Healthy Paws, that offers alternative therapy treatment.
Some of the different therapy offered are the following:
- Physical therapy
- Chiropractic care
- Laser therapy
Alternative Therapy is a good option for older pets because it is more therapeutic and less invasive.
American Modern’s benefit limit levels are $5,000-$30,000 in all states except NY where is it $15,000. In most states, they offer Unlimited coverage via phone enrollment
It’s beneficial to have the various benefit limit levels to help keep the premiums down.
But, they don’t offer the choice of unlimited benefits, like Healthy Paws, which is always a good choice because you never have to worry about spending more than their limit.
With one serious illness, you could be looking at a $20,000 vet bill and you won’t have the proper coverage.
A very young cat or dog might be OK with these limits, but even young pets can get expensive illnesses or injuries (which is why it’s best to insure your pets while they are young).
Reimbursement choices are from a low of 70% to a high of 90%.
Reimbursements are paid on the actual vet invoice, which is preferable.
If you are looking to lower your monthly premium, then choose the lower reimbursement levels.
It is rare to offer a 100% reimbursement rate, but Figo does just that!
Wellness plans are reimbursed according to the plan you choose and are from a low of $250 to the highest reimbursement plan of $650.
American Modern offers many annual deductible choices: the lowest offered is $200 and the highest is $1,000.
As the name implies, annual deductibles are paid one time each year on the first veterinary bill.
Annual deductibles (rather than per-incident) are favorable since you know exactly what you will pay each year.
The higher deductible that you choose, the lower your monthly deductible will be.

Final Thoughts on American Modern Pet Insurance
American Modern pet insurance offers a variety of plans which is very favorable because you can really customize the policy according to your pet’s needs and your budget.
It would be nice if they had an unlimited benefit option, like Healthy Paws, so you never have to worry about your limitations. The unlimited offer is only available in most states via phone enrollment.
