Pets Best Reviews
Updated 6/28/17 by Dr. Pippa Elliot
We rank Pets Best the 3rd best pet insurance. Pets Best reviews from real customers consistently mention fast payment times (less than 5 days!) and flexible coverage.
Pets Best offers Accident-Only and Accident & Illness policies. They also have a Routine Care plan.
There are 3 Accident & Illness plans: Essential, Plus, and Elite. And there are important differences between the plans.
Pets Best Essential plan is a very basic plan with a low $5,000 annual coverage limit. We do not recommend this plan. Just a single vet emergency can cost $20,000…and this plan would only cover a fraction of it! Once that $5,000 is paid, no other medical expenses would be covered for the rest of the year.
Pets Best Plus plan offers $10,000 in annual coverage. It includes exam fees for accidents and illnesses. This is a great benefit since most pet insurance companies don’t reimburse exam fees.
The Plus plan also covers rehab, chiropractor, and acupuncture. We like that these Pets Best includes these alternative treatments in the cost of pet insurance. Some insurers only cover such treatments as part of a wellness plan that costs extra.
The Elite plan is our Pets Best top choice. It covers exam fees and alternative treatments, with UNLIMITED annual coverage. We believe unlimited coverage is necessary since the cost of veterinary care is so high. If you’re going to invest in pet insurance, you want to make sure it covers any accident or illness your pet might have throughout the year.
Pets Best customers rated their customer service 10/10. Overall, our reviewers found Pets Best plans to be a smart investment for pet parents. Based on excellent customer service reviews and solid coverage, our reviewers gave Pets Best an overall grade of A-.

“Pets Best saved my Labrador”
My boy was crying in pain and collapsed on the floor. He was rushed into emergency surgery on his neck and the ordeal was so expensive. Pets Best refunded me right away. I could not have afforded to take care of my dog without Pets Best. Thank you.

“Pets Best is the Best Insurance”
As a senior citizen, my income is low and fixed. If something were to happen to my Corgi, I would not be able to afford it. Having this pet insurance policy gives me peace a piece of mind knowing that she’s safe and protected against unforeseen medical emergencies.

Questions About Pets Best?
Pets Best has over 30 years of experience providing pet insurance.
Unfortunately, no pet insurance plan, including Pets Best, covers pre-existing conditions. They only cover future accidents and illnesses.
You can choose an annual deductible from $0 to $1000. The lower your deductible is, the higher your monthly payment will be.
Reimbursement amounts are 70%, 80%, 90%, or 100% of the total vet bill.
Plans are subject to annual reimbursement limits of $10,000 per year on the Elite Plan and $5,000 per year on both the Essential & Plus plans.
I love this insurance! Pets are just like humans and they have medical problems and emergencies that come up too. This insurance has saved me from a doggy medical disaster.
I love Pets Best. Despite what some with an ax to grind think, pets experience emotions and physical pain just like humans do. It’s not insane to consider paid pet insurance that the government and/or employers pay either! Dog health emergencies don’t exactly call and give you a heads up before suddenly appearing. Pet insurance saved me from a doggy medical disaster and I have nothing but positive things to say about Pets Best. They paid the claim on time, didn’t deny or exclude anything that they previously said they would cover and the staff seemed genuinely concerned about the well-being of my animal.
This plan, the plus option, is the best choice I’ve made in years. I had to rush my beagle to the ER last summer after he swallowed a huge bone –WHOLE. Luckily I had this insurance and didn’t have to break the bank. My wife would have had a fit. Pets Best has been a great company to deal with so far.
Awesome review! As I’m reviewing my current plan, which I love, yet wondering if I can get more for what I’m paying, as I didn’t really know there were so many options 3 years ago when I first purchased. I’m loving the fact that Pets Best was founded by Veterinarians as who better to know what a pet is going to need for health coverage in the long run. I also like all the pieces of the wellness plan. Thank you so much for breaking down the information, as it can become overwhelming for a person, like myself that is new to investigating.. keep smiling
I heard many nice things about Pets Best insurance company. It has many awesome features that one can do insurance with this company. It has two premium plan which both are suitable. Monthly premium quote for low coverage offers 70 percent reimbursement, $1,000 annual deductible, $5,000 annual limit,Plus option and Monthly premium quote for plans with comprehensive coverage offers 90 percent reimbursement, $100 annual deductible, $5,000 annual limit. It is really amazing.
What a thorough review! It’s nice to be able to really look at the options available to find what’s going to work best for me and my family. I like the flea and tick coverage. Treatments for fleas can add up really quick. It’s just so great to know there are insurance plans available for my furbabies!
Pets Best cares enough to support us (the parents of the pets)to have the Vet see our pets and then we receive help in the form of a check from the Insurance Company. Our pet receives better care when we all work together for the good of our pet.
We have 2 English Bulldogs that have Pets Best & so far so good. Very easy to use. Great explanations & quick service.
I’d recommend Pets Best to anyone with a dog or cat. I’ve been reimbursed for all my vet bills quickly and easily and have only had to pay one modest excess payment plus my monthly premium. It’s saved me a lot of money and I have been impressed with the service and reimbursement for my Bullmastiff.
Pets Best offers coverage for the most common accidents, and is definitely a life saver for people on a budget. I love that they have 3 simple plans to choose from, and that they’ve been in business for over 30 years! That really speaks to me because you know what they say, time is the true test. Pets Best passed! 😉
We use Pets Best and have been very happy with them. Our previous pet insurance company was difficult to contact and they didn’t cover as much as we initially thought they did. If only we had found your site sooner!
Vaccines seem to be the most expensive part of owning a pet and not having pet insurance makes it even more expensive. Pets Best sounds like a good company and they cover vaccines and exams making the co-pays affordable. Do they also offer cancer coverage? I hear that is a feature that some pet insurance companies are offering now.
We have to be honest. Pets, especially dogs and cats are a very expensive hobby. They need vaccine. They can get sick and suffer. If you want to have a pet you have to be responsible. With this insurance i can save more than half of my expenses which is very helpful. And i don´t have to worry about the money if something happens.
Marion, what you said is so true. Having a pet requires responsibility that’s why insurance coverage is so important, but on the bright side of things Pets Best is one of the most budget friendly companies. We are always happy to help in your research efforts.
These monthly prices sound pretty reasonable. With prices and packages like these, there is really no excuse not to purchase insurance, even for people on a very limited budget. This is going to save so much money in the long run!!
Stacy, Pet Best offers a zero deductible and zero co-pay and 100% coverage that saves pet parents hundreds of dollars yearly for both dogs and cats. We are glad this information has helped you. Glad this seems reasonable for you.
I am only 3 weeks into my Petsbest coverage for my 2 pets and so far, at every single turn, there seems to be either problems of incompetence with in the claims department or deliberate tactics to misinterpret vet notes…. i.e., on my clinic’s legal medical records ( on clinic letterhead), my vet wrote of specific procedures. The vet basically wrote what procedures were performed for which body parts ( dated, and again, on clinic letter head), the claims department requested more medical records because the procedure ” performed” could have been at other vets. Really? Even if it was on my vet clinic’s letterhead?
They keep asking for medical records when they already have ALL OF them FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. I have asked them to e-mail me all the medical records they have on file so I can e-,mail what they sent me back to them when they ask for records again.
I understand that people with negative reviews tend to write reviews more often than people with positive reviews. I also understand that not every single employee is perfectly trained and competant but.. let me provide this piece of information which I think illustrates how sophomoric their system is.
As a rule, there is only one policy # for a policy holder ( i.e. pet guardian). I have 2 pets. They both have the same policy #. All e-mails I have received only show that one policy # without the pet’s name. When I am asked to call the company for more medical records, I am asked by the representatives which pet I am calling about, my response is ” I don’t know, you’ll have to tell me as your e-mail does not specify.”
It’s 2017. There is no excuse for this kind of systemic confusion… unless they want to purposely confuse the policy holder and run him ragged.
Let’s put it this way: Should your whole family have the same social security #? the same drivers license # even if there is more than one driver? etc…
Im addition, no e-mails are ever signed so one never knows if the person writing back is the same person one spoke with on the phone/communicated via e-mail or someone else who just saw that an e-mail need to be answered and did as such, perhaps not knowing about the entire situation.
This is a fraudulent company. They have tripled my premium in a span of 2 years because my pet had all surgeries. They will lie to you and say the increase has nothing to do with the claims but its false. There should be a class action lawsuit.
I can’t help to not think any if not all the good reviews are fake just like the company if you read and understand there terms and conditions there is a way to deny you’re claim I’m glad I had to take my cat to the vet after three months of coverage that’s when I found out how they work thank god I didn’t go a year or 2 or longer of giving them payments they make it sound good but you will find out as soon as you go to use it there is no way any part of it saves you money trust what I’m saying the way it’s done math wise there is no payback and anything you go to the vet for automatically becomes a pre existing condition that they don’t cover all they do is take in money there is no reimbursement possible please look in to all there small print that is false and I hope they get found out spread the word help me stop pets best
I definitely recommend Pets Best for anyone. I have a male labrador who had to go through surgery and Pets Best team was always helpful and very easy to contact.
I was reimbursed after 10 days I sent all the paper work and was happy with their service.
Thank you Pets Best!
My dog Maui appreciates all your help =)
I had signed up for a quarterly insurance with pets best on 7/7/2017 for a quarterly insurance. While signing up for the insurance i had provided my card information. Yesterday my card got automatically charged for the insurance for next quarter, but there was no email or any information given to me regarding the automatic payment during the end of the time. This is a shock to me and when i went to the website the site didn’t show that my card will be automatically charged in the payment section or any where else where a normal user access the site. There was also no option to opt out of automatic payment in the site. When i call and asked for cancellation and refund, the person mentioned that the refund will be prorated. But i was automatically charged and didn’t use the service! I mentioned it to her but all i got was “you can contact your bank or lawyer regarding this”. This is so rude!! I am writing this hoping the person managing the company values customer experience and relationship by providing just and clear communication to the user. I don’t want anyone else to go through the same issue!
